Dave Salt glaze jugs in various sizes and shapes can be found with many different letter stamps on them. I have seen M, H, C, A, and B. I am sure there are others as well. Based on all my research I would say that any jug with this stamp is most likely not a Red Wing Product. A few pieces I have seen were bottom stamped with the makers name in addition to the Letter stamp. Robinson Pottery and Weeks pottery both in Akron Ohio were 2 I know of. I used to live in Ohio and you can find a lot of salt glaze and even zinc glaze jugs and crocks with these stamps. It is quite common. I believe that a number of potteries in Ohio used them to identify the plant that they were made in or possibly even the person who made the item. The decorations on these pieces are identical to many of the decorations used by Red Wing. Many people innocently confuse these pieces as Red Wing products due to the decorations not knowing that they are most likely from Ohio. In fact in some of the early Stoneware books the writers made the same mistake by saying they were from Red Wing but know the evidence indicates otherwise. Steve L.
