A number of times in the past numerous questions concerning the infamous August Sandberg or "SA" decorated crocks have appeared on the site. All continuing the debate as to whether they are attributed to Red Wing or not.
The last time someone asked about the possibility of these crocks comming from the Weller pottery in Ohio as Weller's initials were S. A. Weller. Well I found that very interesting and took it upon myself to contact the Ohio pottery Museum and the Ohio Historical society to see if they could help. After all this could put this issue to bed once and for all.
Well I have recieved responses from both organizations but alas they state that there is no record of the Weller pottery ever producing Salt Glaze stoneware of any type. It appears that they produced some redware very early on but then moved to producing artware.
Ahh yes the mystery continues. I had high hopes that maybe just maybe there would be an end to the debate. I guess that will just have to wait for another day!!!!
If I ever track this one down I will be sure to post my findings on the site. Untill then happy hunting and if anyone has any info on this topic please email me. Even if it seems to be a trivial insignificant clue. If I get enough of them we could solve it by putting them all together and another Red Wing mystery will be put to rest!!!!!
