It's possible to ship crocks/jugs upto 5 gallons in size without much difficulty using UPS. Appropriate packing, double boxing with styrofoam peanuts, bubble wrap, foam padding, newspaper, etc. I've only heard of one piece of stoneware that was truly damaged in shipping when appropriately packaged.
