I think you need to look at who you're buying from. If you're buying stoneware from people not familiar with it, they don't know how to look for damage. They don't know what a "hairline" is, and may describe it as a "scratch in the glaze". When buying from a reputable dealer knowledgeable in Red Wing, such as Cheryle and others, I expect accurate descriptions, and am never dissatisfied.
It's clear here that the problem in this case is the Post Office and their slow conflict resolution process. Shipping is still the weak link in the whole eBay process, and not "buyers" and "sellers".
