Western Stonware Company was formed in 1906. (the same year as Red Wing Union Stoneware Co. was formed)Seven potteries from the midwest were involved in the merger. Early pieces were marked with a Maple Leaf. Many had the plant number included. Plant number 7 is probably the hardest marking to find as the plant burned in December, 1906 and was not rebuilt. Later pieces were marked with the maple leaf and the oval. (probably in the 1920's) Later, in the 1930's, flowers were added, most often on the reverse side from the maple leaf & oval.
