The lids for the preserve jars, packing jars and snuff jars sometimes had numbers on them. Whether the number represents the capacity of the jar, or just a number in a series of sizes can possibly be discerned by knowing that some of these jars were advertised in 1,3,5,10 & 20 pound capacity.
