There were a couple of stoneware companies in Macom, Illinois that I have any detailed information about, the Macomb Stoneware Co. and the Macomb Pottery Co. Both of these became part of Western Stoneware Company in 1906. The first was destroyed by fire in 1913 and not rebuilt. The other produced stoneware under the Western banner until about 1926 and then took-up other grades of pottery. So, I'm assuming that Buckeye was not a later incarnation of one these, but an independent firm. We've seen enough of them here in Southeastern Wisconsin over the years that I wouldn't consider them "rare", so they were apparently either a substantial producer, or were in production for more than just a brief time. If any of our Illinois collectors have more details, please let us know.
