Robin-- Nicomas was a glaze that Red Wing started using in the early 1930's. It was described as " a metalic finish in gray and tan with tint of copper. It didn't sell well but now is in great demand. It has been described as " an ashen gray-green coloring, made to resemble the weather-beaten face of Hiawatha's grandmother". In Longfellows "Song of Hiawatha", Nokomis is the name of Hiawathas Grandmother. I believe it was abandoned because of cost.
