Sorry for the delay in responding. Wally is probably right in his analysis. I would not be surprised to find exceptions to the color patterns you mentioned, i.e., to find an orange sugar with an orange interior. I don't have enough examples in my collection to verify this as I only have two sugars, an orange with white interior and a royal blue with royal blue interior. I do have two Gypsy Trail Plain royal blue chocolate cups, one with the blue interior and one with the white interior so I do know it happened within the line.

Perhaps Stan or Dave know the reason why this occurs. Reed and Plain are fun to collect because you never know what you may find. Reed is very seldom marked. I have a royal blue creamer which is marked, and I found a 14" orange platter which has the number 14 incised on the bottom as well as an incised wing containing the words "Red Wing".
