Nick, I think that Wally was giving you his evaluation of the validity of knowledge contained in the Dolen's book. His evaluation is shared by many knowledgable collectors. Any book that attributes unmarked or otherwise controversial pieces without including the basis for those conclusions is of no scholarly value. The Dolen books are nice picture books, but they contain several errors of fact that are obvious to any knowledgable collector. The only credibility an author earns by being published is that he can convince someone that the resultant book or article will sell. To gain credibility as an authority, you must explain the basis for your conclusions.
