Kay, the Minnesota Stoneware Company was one of the foreruners of the Red Wing Potteries, Inc., which was the name that the resultant company took in 1936. The Minnesota Stoneware Co. started in 1883 and was the company that built the four story, red brick building in 1900 that is now The Pottery outlet mall in Red Wing. Up until 1900, they used salt-glaze and brown slip for glazing. After 1900 they abandoned salt-glazing for the more modern white-glaze.
