Rbielski-- Welcome to the wonderful world of Red Wing. The first thing you learn in collecting Red Wing is that Red Wing did a lot of things that don't make sense. They also were not consistant in what they did. Everything was done by hand and no two pieces were done the same. That is what makes Red Wing so collectable. Reed was part of the Gypsy Trail line that was introduced in 1935. Gypsy Trail was the first line of Dinnerware that Red Wing attempted and as you can see it worked rather well. You may have noticed that I haven't answered your question, just sort of skirted around it. I have a friend, Terry Moe, that will answer your question and by letting him answer I will save a little face, he is a collector of Gypsy Trail and knows all about it.
