A blue wing indicates either a mistake, a mischievous decorator or an intentional substitution. All of the blue wings that I have seen have had some evidence of red in them, which seems to indicate that customary, red stamping slip was being used just prior to the blue piece, rather than the possibility that blue had been wholly substituted for some period. It seems much more likely that a worker dipped the rubber stamp into the wrong vat either as an absent minded accident or a playful break in the monotony. Blue wings are rare. Some that have been displayed where still more red than blue. The value would depend upon the size (a two-gallon would have the greatest potential) and the attractiveness of the piece.
