Markee, you need a copy of the 3rd Edition of Red Wing Potters & Their Wares. (Order Information on the Reference Page of this web site) When the old North Star factory building was demolished in 1994 and the lot excavated, the North Star dumpsite was discovered. It had been covered with a foot or two of cinders and soil at the east end of the building. Revealed here were shards of decorated salt-glazed North Star ware that provides a method of attributing some familiar designs on unsigned ware that had previously been mysterious. The hand-drawn leaf was one of the designs present. Unlike the design typical of Red Wing and Minnesota Stoneware companys' leaves, North Star's leaf seems to be more of a primitive outline and usually pointing left, instead of right. Detail of other discoveries are included in the 3rd edition, issued in 1996. -Gary-
