I queried Stan about Village Brown and he responded via email. Here's what he had to say...
The v brown came out in 1955 2 years after v green. You could get the plates, saucer, sauce and cereal dish rim soup vegetable, and both platters. V brown never sold well and was not kept around for very long... Don't forget that there was also the wheat pattern. you could get the same pieces along with a bean pot and the beverage mug. I really liked this but again the pattern did not sell. Wheat appears to be even harder to find than the brown.
