If making reproduction ware was really that easy there would be a real problem. The truth is Vicky, that for practical reasons it is prohibitively difficult to make "fakes" of ordinary pieces of this size. Matching the shapes of the piece and lid would require molds be constructed; a process calling for not a small amount of skill and knowledge. Matching the colors and textures of the clay body and glazes requires even more skill, knowledge and equipment. Finally, firing pieces this size requires one-at-a-time quantity, or a very large kiln. It would be like counterfeiting $1 bills, it just isn't worth the trouble. "Modifying" small or medium-sized pieces with unique decorations is more feasible, but there is a practical problem here too. How many of this type of "lunchhour" piece can a faker sell without raising suspicion?
