I learned about Western Stoneware Company in 1981, when we did the RWCS commemorative for the first time. Everybody who had done the commemorative for the previous four years had run into difficulties working with studio potters. It occured to me that if you wanted jugs, you ought to contact a jug manufacturer. So I looked-up potteries and ceramic suppliers in the Thomas Industrial Register at work and contacted them. We drove down to visit them and tour the factory. It was quite an education. We've visited about another dozen potteries, large and small since then. I've got the addresses and phone numbers around here someplace, but if you dial the Area Code for East-Central Illinois and 555-1212 you can get the phone number for Western Stoneware Company and talk to Bette Cooper, who co-authored the Monmouth-Western book. Or, you can buy the book, published by Wallace-Homestead (ISBN 0-87067-372-7); that's where I got all the info. -Gary-
