Youve bought yourself a real prize. Winged fancy jugs are highly desirable and rather rare. None of the brown-top, wing jugs show up in any catelog that I am aware of, so its tough to date them, except for the fact that the one-gallon and half-gallon sizes have small wings that are usually associated with the 1930s. ( the winged fancy jugs have been found in only one-galion and half gallon sizes that I am aware of.)
The shoulder on shoulder jugs is useful in stacking inside the kiln (see pg 193, Red Wing Potters & Their Wares) The utility of a fancy jug is in its pleasing shape.
