Hi Dino, The lid was meant for a crock (jar). Some crock lids exhibit a greenish or brownish coloration for reasons I don't fully understand. I believe it has something to do with their position in the kiln. This discoloration is referred to as "kiln burn" by collectors. I have observed that the term "salt glaze" is used rather loosely by ebay sellers. Ebay is certainly a "buyer's beware" situation, but if you are knowledgable about what you want and communicate with the seller, you generally can acquire a desirable item. I've been burned at ebay (I chalk it up to a learning curve), but I've also acquired items I thought I'd probably never have the opportunity to enjoy. It's all part of the hunt. Forget about getting a deal though! Steve
