Elmer's glue and other liquid, white glues aren't very suitable for stoneware repairs, I'm afraid. They are better suited to wood and paper, whose porous nature is necessary for the bond. On reletively nonporous materials they just don't have the holding power. The same goes for the yellow glues, sometimes called woodworker's or carpenter's glue. Epoxies are the best of the readily available glues for stoneware, provided you have a completely broken piece (pieces, really!). If you are trying to stabilize a crack, epoxies may be too viscous to flow into the crevise. In this case, you might need to use a cyanoacrylate, or which Super Glue is a trade name. These are available in thin formulations that can actually wick-in to pretty intimate cracks.
