Shelly N. from Red Wing, MN eggshell1997@yahoo.com found your site on a yahoo search I've lived in RW all my life and so has my husband and his family. Recently his father passed away and in cleaning out his house we found lots of great pieces. 2 full sets of dishes with many serving pieces, lots of vases lamps, crocks, artware, you name it. Seems my husbands great uncle worked at the pottery and his sister( my husbands Grandma) bought everything there. It's all been in the house since the 20's- the house has been in the family that long. It's been great fun checking out other people's stuff. Your site is the best I've been to. Thanks!! PS if I ever figure out my digital camera, I'd love to send some pix to add !

You have a great selection of pictures. I would love to have everything shown!!! I fell in love with a 20 stoneware crock that my grandma used to make pickles in. I inherited it and I frequent alot of auctions in the area and try and pick up new pieces. The auctioneer that lives across the road from me calls me "redwing".

patjonson_58@hotmail.com Came to your site trying to research a round/cylinder 20 gal-crock I'd recently acquired. Thought it might be the typical unmarked Western, RW, etc. A dark chocolate brown, glossy glaze with some granularity in/out with some run variation. 20" H X 18" W. The clay is a full 1" thick. There is a thickened lip 2" high. 3" down an indented line runs horizonallly. A 20 is hand carved by one of the two ear handles resting on the horizonal line mentioned - but no other markings. There is some light horizontal ribbing inside(one of the new pieces I wondered). BUT, the clay was wrong. Not red clay but a yellowish tan that dosen't darken when wetted. The botom of the base is interesting, the tan is pinwheeled with a darker red clay that extends up into (at least the lower base as eposed by some glaze and shallow chipping). Driving me crazy. Now I have a little more info after talking to the last owner. Apparently the crock was brought from germany by her husband's grandparents or great-grandparents. It was used for storing meats. That would put the crock around 1900 possibly earlier. There is some light to moderate chipping around base (mostly just glaze) - presumably from rolling this heavy beast around. Two small glaze faults along the rim, a few flea bites. The handles have a few flea bites and a more substansial chip or two. There is a somewhat roughly hewn wooden lid with knob that was made by the husband. Nicely aged, but obviously not as old as the crock. If anyone could add 2 cents on possible age, manufacture and of course thoughts on possible valuation range I'd be grateful. There may be more crocks, but smaller, to come from this source and I'd like to have done my homework but not sure where to go from here. Thanks for any and all input!!!! Pat

Her sisters and friends thought that she was crazy to choose such a strange pattern. I always loved it and regret more than ever that I pulled the cloth off of the breakfast table and broke the sugar bowl, creamer and several other pieces. My favorite piece is the Ming Green Pitcher; I am interested in buying, trading etc. My e-mail address is whumphr1@tampabay.rr.com. I was amazed to find the "Letter from a Pottery Worker" - the letter was written by my father, William G. Warr, Jr., who died in 1986. After leaving Red Wing in 1954, we returned for a visit in Sept. 1983. He designed the Blossom Time pattern and also the Red Wing stamp in 1950 - I recognize his printing on the stamp. Jeanita in Kansas City, MO. ivesjg@hotmail.com Had some deep brown mugs with a teal green color inside and kind of squarish handles in our family for years. We always called them the hot chocolate mugs. Mom gave them to me a few years ago and I never knew much about them. Today I found some like them in a shop in Spring Hill, Kansas with a complete set of dishes to match. They were labeled with Red Wing Provencial Oomph. So now I am trying to locate some photos of what I have. It appears there is no such thing as a pattern with both names...Oomph seems closer than anything so far but my handles are not curved. We have had them since the 40's. Any idea where to look next. I think I have 6 of them.

Hi, Our collection is strictly acquired though people we have known throughout the years, and what has been handed down to us through our families. We have a crock which is not RedWing, but rather a 12 gallon crock made in Monmouth Illinois with the grapeleaf transfer and the words "western stoneware" in an oval shaped blue print on the side of the crock. The handles are of a double bail with the wooden top handle. Searching the web sent me to your website (I don't know how) but 'hello' to you, and your pages are very informative, and I thank you for information gleaned from them. Thanks again. My great grandfather was also a redwing pottery designer, I'm sure one of the more famous one's. He went on to Rookwood pottery. His name is James A. Williams. All the very sculpted pieces, flowing, ornate, wimsical relieve pieces with alot of ivy and leaf work are examples of his work. My 76 year old mother is here visiting me and I am teaching her to use the internet, so we tryed to look grandpa up. I have seem many pieces that I recognise unmistakingly as his work, but have not come across him by name. Can you help me to find out more about him. My mother is also a very talented sculpter, and remembers the pottery studio in there back yard well, we have several unsigned pieces. How are these valued? Thank you so much for helping me in my search. Jamie Phelan

Norm Hesseldahl, Lebanon, Oregon nhesseldahl@centurytel.net I found Wing Tips on A to Zee - Red Wng Pottery (Google search). My wife and I started collecting wings about 15 years ago, and I was able to acquire several quality pieces at, by today's standards, bargain-basement prices. My best acquisition was a 1 gallon North Star shoulder jug for $20 at the big antique show in Portland about 10 years back. Out here in Oregon it is impossible to find quality pieces on the market any more. They have been scooped up by collectors like myself. I haven't bought a piece in two years because I refuse to buy junk. I've learned that there are three rules in collecting Wings - quality, quality, quality! I'm happy to find your website and hope to join in some of the chats. And I know I will have some questions.

Carol DeRemee North Mankato, MN 56003 cld@hickorytech.net I found Wing Tips from the search engine Ask Jeeves. I was born and raised in Red Wing. My family has always had Red Wing pottery items. I have some of them and know that some of them are real collector's items! I like the pottery I have and use it in my home for decor which is antique and country. I have no more family in Red Wing so it's nice to have this connection. Carol

Hi, this is Nancy Abbott, a g'dgt of two Red Wingers and a g g'dgt of two well-known Red Wingers who came to Goodhue County in the late 1800's. I spent many of my growing-up summers on my g'parents' farm in Goodhue (they retired to Red Wing to the family home on East Avenue). The last time I was in Red Wing was back in July, 1995, when we had our family reunion (of the Seebach family) and also to celebrate the publication of our family history book on the Seebach family. I began to collect Red Wing pottery after my mother's death last Feburary when I came across several pieces in her estate. I discovered that many of the pieces I remembered from my child-hood had been broken (by her husbands) so I began to start col-lecting that pattern (Brittany dinnerware). I am also on the outlook for pieces from the Orleans pattern since her older sister had that pattern. My mother's other sisters used the Bob White pattern (she has sold all of them) and the other used the Mediterrania pattern. I have run across bits & pieces (for years I kept all my seashells in a Village Green casserole bowl), am now collecting color variations of the #887 vase and the 1037 bowl. She also has some of the Village Green bowls. Sorry, am not selling these as these have senitimental value to me now that my mother is not here. Would like to hear from others about these pattern pieces and anyone who knows of the Seebach family in Goodhue County. Thanks, Nancy Abbott (g'dgt of Carl H and Paula Seebach)

Graciel Evenstar. Buffalo, NY. Rosebird11@aol.com. Search engine, google. My business partner showed me her "prize" hand-me-down dinnerware from her aunt Lou. It is Lexington Rose. Within a week, I found a box of the very same dinnerware, tucked under a fleamarket table. $10 for the whole box!! I was astounded at the serendipity/synchronicity. 10 pieces + 4 teacups with saucers. All great condition. Then shorlty after, I found a lovely redwing star dish with a green interior at the Salvation Army. Dirt cheap. As they say, I am now hooked!!
