My method of guiding the site for the most part is to let everyone post on the forums and do as little moderation as possible. At times a person comes along such as Mr. Profanity where it required little thought to delete the posts. Normally I would not delete any post that has to do with Red Wing and presents a point. Currently with the situation of a lot of name calling and sarcasm that did not seem to stop I decided that it would be a good idea to delete a post and send a message to everyone. This required thought and was done at the request of MANY of the long time viewers and contributors who has emailed me with their thoughts of dissatisfaction and requests for the flaming and name calling to stop. The move was too much for some and too little for others. It just happens to be that the first post that had sarcasm in a while was from Cheryle, and I understand the she and Rusty each have a unique prose that regular viewers understand. I just did not want another battle of the posts to start. It also came into my thought process what would new viewers of the site think with all of the name calling and taunting? Does this really put forward the what we at Wing Tips want to project with the goals of community and welcoming new collectors? The post appeared to be the start of another thread that would end in name calling profanity etc and I wanted to stop it before it started again. Since the post was deleted/edited I have received several emails of thanks and five regular viewers have made posts of support. In the future I ask that others make well thought out posts and avoid resorting to name calling and threads that seem to resemble flaming! It is my intention to avoid deleting posts in the future and hope everyone took this action as a point that we all need to come together as a community as a rift appeared to be developing within Wing Tips.
