Diana....Very carefully!! The "lodged" piece is actually a rusted bolt. I've removed several and here is the way I do it. I first removed any remaining rusted nuts carefully with a hack saw. I then sprayed the ends and into the holes of the handle lugs with a lubricant(penetrating oil, WD-40, etc.)and let it set for awhile. I then took a long finishing nail with a smaller diameter than the hole and gently tapped the bolt...before long they slide out. The clay handle lugs are really quite rugged. Good Luck
