Time slipped away again this year. Saw old friends, met new ones and missed the friends who couldn’t make it this year. Many were asking about Dave Newkirk. Where are you Dave? It’s always great to see the faces of Wing Tips frequenters. I learned some new things and bought a little, too. The color of the Convention was RED. All volunteers earned their shirts this year. Do you think the Convention would happen if they didn’t volunteer to do it? And the hardest workers of them all were your elected Board of Directors. They were every where. The new programs just for kids were very well attended and the kids I talked to had a good time. There was everything from making their own clay creation, to a Kids Only auction with Red Wing bucks. Good job Sue and Wendy. I saw no lines again at the commemorative distributions. This year’s beauty was a winner for everyone but the stoneware people were very pleased. I will not say what it is now because the mail order people haven’t received theirs. Thank you John and Holly. Sandy Short, the gal who puts together the Shared Interest Groups and Educational Seminars did it again. They were well attended. She is asking for speaker and facilitators for next year. If you have a collection passion contact her. The Thursday evening auction had a new twist. It could be viewed in air conditioned comfort of the cafeteria until the item number you were interest in came up, then high-tail it to the gym. The option wasn’t being used by many this year probably because the weather was cooler and drier. Good idea Jeff and Paulette. Those who didn’t make it to the Annual Business Meeting should have been there. It’s your Society. Watch for and read your newsletter and possibly check out the Red Wing Collectors Society web-site for changes in the structure of membership dues and by-law changes. Members well vote on this change at the next Conventions Annual Business Meeting, July 11th, 12th and 13th, 2002. Helen Bell, was inducted into the Red Wing Collectors Societies Hall of Fame. Congratulation, Helen, and thank you, for the years of support, encouragement and leadership you have given to The Society. The Potters Picnic was a great success and very well attended. A lot of chicken and burgers were eaten. There were some comments about the lack of port-a-potties. And why no games this year? Maybe next year. I thought some of the shops were very high in price but the Convention Show and Sale prices seem reasonable for art pottery I was looking for. The aisles were wide but jammed with shoppers. Pete May got a round of applause for announcing that the person who left the dog in a locked pickup needed to rethink that decision. Thanks for a job well done by Pete and Cindy. So it’s over for another year but next year will be even bigger and better. After all it’s the 25th Anniversary!!! Hope you can all be there.
