I answer the Guest Book entries that come to Wing Tips and some times those writers write me personally. A question has come up several times lately, that I have tried to evade. I just don't know how to answer. One person wrote that she purchased two pieces of stoneware, signed with a red wing on the front at a shop in Red Wing. She was told by the clerk that the Red Wing Stoneware Company had been out of business "for some years" but had recently reopened. She wanted to know if the name was being "misused". Well, is it? According to what I have read in a variety of books, papers and the RWCS web-site, the company went out of business in the late 1800's. Can this new company claim a connection with the stoneware we are collecting and talking about on Wing Tips? Yes, I do know it is signed differently, buy new collectors and the unaware may not know the difference. It is being sold on e---. Some sellers advertise it as new, some don't. So anyway, the question is, does this new company have a link, a connection to the company that closed in the late 1800's or Red Wing Potteries that closed in 1967? Should members, collectors and sellers consider this new shop as an extension, a continuation of The Legacy? Kathleen
