If the ammonia doesn't do it you might try an solvent such as acetone, xylene, or methyl ethyl ketone. You can get them in quarts or gallons at the hardware store. you'll want to soak the entire plate for a couple of days, so you'll need some kind of container that isn't affected by these chemicals. They are volitile and flamable, so be certain that whatever container you use seals tightly. If none of these work either, you might try to make up an interesting story about how the President visited the pottery and signed this plate. -Gary- (I know, Roosevelt was dead long before the plate was produced. I DID say that it had to be an INTERESTING story!)
