My thoughts and a proposal (if anyone out there is listening)...

After a couple days of blood-pumping communications under our belts I am beginning to get a feel for what's really going on here with this letter from the BOD. Here's my take on it...

The BOD had a valid concern, spurred on my intent to have a web cam in my room in Rochester, and wanted to take some action in order to protect their rights of ownership of certain aspects of official activities; not so much to fend off Byron (I'm guessing since so far we haven't been able to find someone that actually attended the last meeting). It's very hard, if not impossible to argue against this!

So, the wording was shuffled around electronically to the point where the majority of members voted for the policy even though there were some VERY good arguments against slamming it through. It seems that, after this point, many on the BOD never heard another word; here's where it gets very hazy and THIS IS MY THEORY...

Some time after the vote an undisclosed person took it upon themselves to write the letter now displayed on Wing Tips and send it, in a very official manner, without first passing it by others on the BOD. I sort of hate to say it but the return address of the letter points to West Des Moines, Iowa.

So, Byron gets the letter, the electronic wheels begin to grind, and here we are. Oh Boy!

My thoughts are these...

- I generally concur with the ORIGINAL intent of the policy but feel it does not properly represent what the BOD is truly after.

- I feel that the majority of the BOD intended to perform a duty to the Society, if not in a little too hasty manner.

- Who ever took the bull by the horns after the vote was taken, and sent out this letter, is the root cause of this unfortunate event.

- It is only 2 days until things begin in Rochester. Although I have made a formal request for written authorization (haven't heard a single word back yet) to cover the event it's going to take a meeting/vote of the BOD to approve my request.

- I don't think the author anticipated my request; thinking it was a done deal and that I'd go away. Basically, absolute failure for Byron was built into the letter based on simple timing of meetings, travel, events, etc. I'm not a lawyer but don't these things have to contain a "Remedy" to be enforceable?

- In light of current circumstances I feel the BOD should do one of two things: 1 - Grant my request ASAP and then revise their policy to reflect the true intent. 2 - Reverse their previous decision, rendering it temporarily void, so that life can go on as normal and revisit when there's proper time to do it right. All I want to do is cover Rochester for god sake!

- Based on the fact that we've heard from 3 of the BOD members, and none of them claim to know anything about this letter, I personally would like to know who is responsible. I get the feeling that others may too.

I, for one, wish that someone in the know (no offense intended here Larry, Wally, Wendy) would step forward with some answers here. If the BOD has to have a major huddle, face-to-face, before taking action on this I sure wonder how that letter got to me and no one knew about it!

Looking for some definite action from our leaders before official events in Rochester.

Respectfully,

BBBush
