Larry,
I personally consider you as one of the most valued voting member of the Red Wing Collectors Society Board of Directors. Not so much that we happen to concur on the topic at hand, but because you are communicative to your constituency, not only on your decisions, but how you have come to these decisions. You are to be thanked for the time you have taken with us here on Wing Talk.
Forgive the digression but... American society (especially an RWCS member in LA) has grown past the times, some 20+ years ago, where it was accepted to make decisions behind closed doors; to feel that an organization obtained power by withholding, or closely guarding information. Without quoting verbatim (OK, maybe I will), isn't there something about...
"Our goals are to research the history of pottery in America, to share that information, to establish a network of collectors, to bring collectors together at an annual convention, and to encourage the buying, selling and trading of stoneware and pottery. We look to expand the public's awareness of stoneware and pottery not only as an art form but as a historical reflection of American culture. In order to promote our goals, to enhance friendships among collectors, to recruit new members, to support our elected officials, and to be at all times a credit to our organization, we do hereby establish these By-Laws."
...in our by laws? Larry, based on what I'm seeing, you're one of the few people on the Board that actively support the word and spirit of our constitution!
Now, if I may, disagree with one point in your note; your use of "Spam"...
The form I created on Wing Tips was specifically designed to send voting members of the RWCS BOD issue letters from other members of the organization. In fact, I made the RWCS Membership # a required field so you would NOT receive spam. This form was targeted at those people who were elected to represent our concerns as members of the RWCS, not at specific members. In fact, the email addresses were take straight from the RWCS web site. Forgive my "Broad Stroke" but your vote counts just as much as the President of the organization and I want to keep you informed. Why, you probably would have felt left out (wouldn't you) if you werent' included!
As you have performed a great deed for us here by presenting your thoughts and your vote on the issue, I would be very willing to remove your address from the list if you still feel any potential mail is Spam; please just make your request here on Wing Talk and it will be done. As a matter courtesy, I'll extend the same offer to any other BOD member that is willing to present their thoughts in the same way you have.
One last note, I would not have included you in the distribution if your address had not been publicly presented on the RWCS site. I honestly thought that was why it was there! Maybe your Web Master can help with that.
Thank you very much Larry for your clear-minded analysis of the situation and, again, for your willingness to tell us what's on your mind.
By the way, do you have any idea when we'll hear on the request to cover the event?
I look forward to seeing you, and the rest of the BOD, in Rochester.
