Byron -- once again you've painted the entire RWCS Board of Directors with one broad brush. I realize you've been put in a difficult position at a very late date, but I really don't appreciate being made the target of a Spam-mail campaign. Especially when I'm on your side.
Due to workplace commitments I was unable to attend the special BOD meeting in mid-January. The main purpose of the meeting was to discuss structural reorganization of RWCS' BOD and leadership positions.
On February 1st an e-mail from President Reed arrived requesting my vote on the following motion: "Moved that the RWCS forbid the broadcast, rebroadcast, publication, or distribution through any media, including the Internet, of any of the activities of the RWCS, especially the Mid Winter Get-To-Gether and the annual convention, without the express written consent of the RWCS Board of Directors, and that Article VI-Conduct of the RWCS By-Laws be applied to any individual who violates that policy.
Since I wasn't at the meeting that generated this motion I found it difficult to vote directly on it. I wrote the following reply to President Reed:
"Is this a proposal that would simply reaffirm the RWCS' right of ownership of these events? Is it intended to remind people to seek RWCS' permission before taking images from RWCS-owned events? If so, then this is an appropriate proposal and I would assume it will be published for all to see and take note.
Or is this a hostile response to one member's proposal to broadcast images and info live from the site. Does the RWCS intend to prevent this from happening, to shut down any such operation? If so, I cannot support the proposal.
Why would we want to stop Byron from broadcasting from Rochester? What are we hiding here? Don't we want to generate publicity about Red Wing? Some "quality control" screening of such broadcasting is fine, but I do not support censorship."
I received no response to my reply and heard nothing more on the subject until seeing the letter that Byron received posted on Wing Tips. Apparently the motion passed and Byron's letter was written subsequently. Given the content of this letter, I certainly hope that my reply to the motion was taken as NAY.
