As I mentioned in a previous post, I sent email to the seller of the now infamous $200,000 eBay Red Wing auction... I heard back this evening and had to let you know what's up!
I was very please to receive, what seemed to be, a very credible and personable note from the seller. They seemed to be amazed that the auction was raising such a "Hoot" in the world of the Wares. The seller offered to send pics some of items in the collection (other than the boxes in storage) and a complete master list of the inventory.
I did just a smidgen of math on the issue to find that $200,000 / 3,500 items = around $57/item. Seems a little high, even for some of the best of the standard artware pieces. I think there's probably a much better way of selling the items in the collection than via this eBay ad; I think it'd be fun to play a part in this, especially if we can help to identify condition, values, buyers, sellers, etc for this enormous collection.
It is my intent to follow up with this to the fullest extent as I honestly believe that this person has what they say they have. I am in the process of inviting the seller to make a post on Wing Tips and tell us more about those 150 boxes of Red Wing.
I'll keep you updated on what happens,
