To All:
I received a note today about how one of our regular Wingers was swindled for over $100 by someone on eBay and it just makes me sick! There has got to be something that Wing Tips can do with a "Bay Watch" page that would help those in our community to avoid and deter this type of situation.
I think many of you mis-interpreted the intent of my proposed Bay Watch page. It seems you think I feel there is something intrinsically wrong or bad with eBay; this is not the case. As a matter of fact, I think the eBay concept is absolutely wonderful for our industry as it (among other things) provides free national exposure and is an incredible experience in the identification and value of the "Wares".
In my mind it is not eBay proper that's the problem, it's the "Slick Willies" out there that are the problem. No matter how good a system eBay puts in place to deter scoundrels there will always be those out there that exploit it. As a matter of fact, I think that a Bay Watch page on Wing Tips (if it were done properly) would actually be perceived as beneficial to those that administer the auction as it might help to expose those that abuse the system.
There's got to be more of you out there that have some strong feelings about this. Come on guys, let's hear what you have to say about this. What can we do to help protect other Red Wing collectors from the same scoundrels and systems we have previously experienced ourselves? As Kathleen said in a previous post, Wing Tips "try's to meet the needs of our Red Wing community". Are we receiving so few posts because of lack of interest or you're intimidated by eBay?
I really want to help our industry and need some good ideas on how best to do it! What do you think?
