Kathleen,
I must not have been clear in my post to Dino. I believe a survey is a great thing for the society to do. This is the best way the board can determine the needs of the society and how to satisfy those needs. I went on to suggest that, because we are going to do a survey, we should include in it all the issues that each board member would like addressed for thier respective areas. In other words gather all the information you are looking for in one survey, not just web site issues.
As to the issues of higher priority, I would submit the following:
1 - Volunteer burnout including board members
2 - Scope of responsibility and month to month workload business manager
3 - Operating a such a large organization with only 8 days of board/management meetings per year.
4 - Formalizing and documenting of annual revenues and expenses. In other words hire a CPA firm. This is not a negative comment about Jerry Flicek. I mearly believe that we have outgrown any one persons ability to manage this huge task
5 - Developement of a complete Marketing plan and budget in which a web-site plays a very important part
Kathleen, please remember that these are some of MY beliefs and are NOT a general consensus of the entire board.
As it relates to the earned interest that we donate each year; I might be wrong but I beleive that we are required by the IRS, because we are a non-profit organization,to donate these funds to another 501 C-3 non-profit organization and not to use these monies for general operating purposes. Jerry Flicek could correct me if I am wrong about this.
Kathleen, I hope I have given you furhter insite to my earlier comments. I would be happy to discuss this at length with you at the Mid-Winter gathering. Thanks for you reponse and Happy Holidays.
