This is a very unofficial account of the first weekend in October. My husband and I arrived in Red Wing on Friday. It was great to be back. The temperature was about 35 degrees cooler than at Convention time and there were splashes of red-orange, rust, red and yellow in the trees on the bluffs and down by the mighty Mississippi. The beautiful hanging plants are still blooming. The town was quite, calm, restful compared to July. Didn't see any pottery sale signs in yards. The shops seemed just as full of the "Wares", and we could maneuver aisles quicker and see more. Prices---about the same. Stopped at Hill Street Antiques and talked to Al for a bit and, of course, hit every shop on Old West Main. I heard Larrys Jugs was open briefly. We missed it. Saturday morning, 8 Am, your elected board was hard at work with the exception of Mr Knappen and Sue Gillmer {Sue was ill, but came to the afternoon and Sunday meeting}. Visitors included Pete and Cindy May from the Gopher Chapter and Mike from, I believe, California. By the way, that is a fun puzzle they put out. Things seemed to move smoothly considering the President, Vice President and Secretary are newly elected and in some cases fairly new members. The biggest thing I came away with is the vital need for volunteers at the Convention. Start thinking about it now and when the call goes out, don't assume others will do it. They don't need a lot of your time. You can probably pick what you want to do and when and for how long. Anyway, give it some serious thought and don't complain when thing are slow if you don't put in your time. So, that's it from me. Wally will see that the full report gets published on the Red Wing Collectors Society web-site as soon as he gets the minutes. You should care. It your Society. Kathleen
