Wing Tips Has a NEW Ad System!

In order to better support our users (and reduce my overhead), I've implemented a new For Sale / Wanted / Auction / Flea Market system.  The new discussion group format allows you to post and see your ads on the web immediately; no more waiting for Byron to place your posts.  Here's the link...

I'll continue to display the old ad pages for a few weeks; while I fine tune the new pages.  We use this as a Beta period.

The RWCS, 2001 Midwinter Get-Together has come and gone...

The Red Wing Collectors Society held their Get-Together in Des Moines, Iowa over the weekend.  I'm jealous of those that were able to attend as this is the first meeting I've missed in five years!

I, and others, would love to hear from any that made it to the new location (it has been held in Rochester, MN for quite a while now) and took part in the activities and fun.

Please take a few moments to make a post in Wing Talk telling what happened in Des Moines!

Seems "Byron Bush" made it on the agenda for the RWCS, BOD meeting that is taking place over this weekend!
Remember, way back when, over a year ago, when I was a soliciting comments about putting an index of RWCS Newsletters together?  I was soliciting feedback on Wing Talk from any / all that cared to comment BEFORE I spent several hundred hours acquiring every single past issue of the Newsletter and then scouring every article for content! Well, now that I've completed the index and actually made it available for the public the RWCS BOD is going to debate the topic. Want to hear more?  See my latest post in Wing Talk.

Want to be on the "Baby Sage Distribution List"?

As you may, or may not, know, my wife Lisabeth is pregnant with our second child and is due to give birth in the next 4-5 weeks.

It's my hope that, as with the birth of our son Hague nearly 2 years ago, that we'll be able to share the birth of Sage with you via the Wing Tips Web Cam page (from a tasteful angle of course) or at least keep you updated via email. I'm not exactly sure what hospital we'll use for the delivery or even if they'll have phone-line access in the room but I can at least send a note before we leave the house that something's up.

If you'd like to receive notification via email when the time comes I encourage you to post your Name and E-Mail address under the "Baby Sage Distribution List" post in Lisa's page...

We may have found a way for you to acquire copies of old RWCS Newsletter Articles!

05-Aug-2000 After months of waiting, it's finally here...

The Wing Tips
 "RWCS Newsletter Index"
is ready for Prime Time!

I've been waiting for this day for over a year now and it has finally come.  We now have a series of web pages that will allow you to query for basic content from RWCS Newsletters dating from the first published in 1977 clear up to October of 1999.

This Index is NOT a complete re-publication of old newsletter articles!  Rather, we had one person spend several months scouring every article, of every newsletter for information we felt would be valuable for people attempting to find information in past issues of the Red Wing Collectors Society Newsletter.

I know what a select few of you are going to ask... Is this legal?  Feel assured that before we even began the project I spent many an hour reviewing Federal copy right laws and yes, what we have done here is perfectly legal!

Please keep in mind that I'm not completely done with the pages you'll see.  Nor is all of the information you'll want in place.

Enough said.  You've to to try this to believe it; the NEW...

The RWCS Newsletter index has a new breath of life and I need help from a couple Wingers!
I received a note from the Wing Tips, Server Administrator yesterday that we're very close to having a new machine to host the site.  The good news is that our age-old RWCS Newsletter Index project will now have the FrontPage/Access 2000 functionality we need to allow you to query our Newsletter database.

I intend to start development of pages in the next day or two and need a couple beta-testers to provide feedback on my development.  If you're interested in this project and in providing feedback on my efforts please drop me a quick note at ByronBush@RedWingNet.com .

The RWCS is experimenting with something new, different and hopefully, fun on the RWCS site, www.redwingcollectors.org . We now have the capability for live, real time chat. The chat service is totally free, and will support up to 100 users at a time. How it works is this: Click on a link from Wing Tips or the RWCS home page, and register by selecting a nickname. This will generate an email to the RWCS Webmaster, who will quickly send your password to you. The next time you click on that link, simply enter your nickname and password, and you're live!

We've scheduled a "test" of the chat system for this Sunday, June 18, at 8:00 Eastern/7:00 Central. If it goes over well enough, we can try to decide on a regular schedule that suits as many as possible. Again, you can sign in from the RWCS home page, or here is the direct link to sign up:

I'm excited to tell you Paul Kosmatka has officially joined ranks with the other Wing Tips volunteers to answer your Red Wing Stoneware related questions in the newly renamed discussion group "Ask Wally & Paul About Red Wing".

I've asked Paul to send me a mug shot of himself with a short bio such that we can all get to know him a little better and will reorganize the appropriate pages once they come in.

Please join me in officially welcoming Paul to the site by firing your best stoneware questions at him; (even value questions) in Ask Wally & Paul About Red Wing!

Pictures from the Charles Murphy Residence!

Wally & Jessy Armstrong visited the Charles / Marie Murphy residence about a month ago to visit with Marie (the wife of the late Red Wing designer Charles Murphy).  During their visit the Armstongs were able to take a few pictures around the Murphy house and interview Marie for the RWCS, Oral History project.

Marie has graciously allowed us to share the pictures taken in and around her house with us here on Wing Tips.  I'll try to get Wally to expand a little on the NEW images in the...

We're Going to Germany!
The Bush family just learned last week that we're going to Germany later this year and will be stationed in the area of Landstuhl, Germany. If you're interested in seeing a map of where we're headed follow This Link (which will open a new browser window).  Here's a Link to the Army Base web site in Landstuhl; and even some Regional Information.

The U.S. Army has been gracious enough to allow Lisabeth, Hague, the dogs, and myself to stay in El Paso until our new baby is born (some time in September), take 45 days of maternity leave, and then head out to our new duty station.

Sorry about the lack of updates...
It's been a hectic few weeks around the Bush house and I've got to apologize for the lack of Wing Tips updates lately.  Among other things, I've been working three jobs, we've had relatives from three states visiting, it's tax time, and we've been working with the Army on this transfer.  I'll do my best to keep things a little more current on the site.

Gary could be gone indefinitely...
The absence of Gary Tefft from Ask Wally & Gary About Red Wing has had a lot of people really missing his expert advice and stories about Red Wing stoneware and it may be a while before his return to our site.

I called the Tefft house last week and spoke with one of the family members.  Seems there's quite a bit going on for Gary right now and, without getting into details, Wing Tips really should be his lowest priority right now.

Even though Gary has not been on Wing Tips for the last several months I do not intent to take his name off the Q/A page until he actually tells me to do so.  Gary and Wally have been with Wing Tips almost from day one and are one of our biggest draws to the site; we owe Gary the time he needs to straighten other things out and eagerly await his return.

In the mean time, I think it's wonderful that others have stepped up to the plate to assist with those Stoneware questions.  Thanks to each and every one of you to burned the calorie to answer those questions!
