Back in the saddle again!
Sorry for nearly 9 days of off time. I've made a trip to Houston, TX and back for a new telecommuting job that should last about 6 months. Once I got back to the house in El Paso I had to perform a very quick install of a network between my notebook and desktop computers including a complete edition of the database "Oracle". 

It appears that things have been pretty interesting in the world of Red Wing in the last couple weeks.  Ray Reiss has come out with second book, the sitting RWCS Newsletter Editor came out with his last edition, and eBay is supposedly reporting Redwing/Rumrill sales as "Cooling".  As if that weren't enough, it seems we're getting some "Stray" posts in Ask Wally & Gary About Red Wing. Looking toward the future, the RWCS Get Together in Rochester, MN is now only 8 weeks away.  Are we having fun yet?

Interested in Wing Tips' Traffic Statistics?
Thanks to Dino Fire of Fireside Antiques  I've been playing with some software that allows me to track usage of Wing Tips and I'd like to share it with you! 
Before you view the statistics you should review the Terms/Definitions used in the report. By hitting This Link you'll see a new browser window with a laboriously detailed list of different statistics for Wing Tips. 
The most interesting bit of info I see in there is that Wing Tips had visitors from 27 different countries including Australia, Sweden, Slovenia, Portugal, Japan, and even Taiwan Republic of China!  Pretty Cool!

Remember our RWCS Newsletter Index Project?
I've been in contact with our Server Gods, trying to impress upon them the fact that we've got some unfinished business here on Wing Tips and, what's the old saying?...
"If you're not part of the solution then you're part of the problem!"
Again, the delay in getting our Newsletter Index on the site is that our server has software that's incompatible with the latest version of the MS Access database. The last time the Server Gods tried to update their software they evidently made the entire system unusable to all the rest of their clients.  Since that time they've learned a little more about what's going on and have promised to try again around the beginning of the year. Believe me, once they have everything in place I'll have some beta query forms available so you can go to town!

Making Steady Progress With Wing Tips' E-Commerce Offering!
I've spent the last several days creating a series of prototype E-Commerce pages complete with several categories of Red Wing products, shopping cart system, credit card processing, etc... and it's working!

The Rumrill Q/A Page is User Moderated Until Further Notice!
We have yet to find a formal moderator for our new Rumrill Q/A Discussion Group so, until further notice, feel free to pitch in there and Ask/Answer questions if you can!

Can't Blame a Guy For Trying!
I hate to say it but it's become pretty obvious that our Rumrill Discussion Group (like the Mars landing projects) flew for a while but has failed to land!
We're in the process of finding a new moderator for our Rumrill Q/A page and hope to have someone capable of answering your questions within a few days. If we're unable to find someone that's capable of responding to your questions (in a timely manner) there are a couple obvious alternatives... we could either remove the discussion group totally or open it up as a "User Moderated" Q/A and depend on our Wing Tips community to help answer questions if they can. If you have strong feelings one way or the other please make them known by replying to the "What to do with the Rumrill Q/A page" in Wing Talk.

Wing Tips is Celebrating Four Years on the Web!
My goodness, it seems like only  yesterday that I was creating a prototype web site for the RWCS, was groping around with this new internet technology, and was happy to have more than 100 hits on the site per week!

Here it is four years latter and, amazingly, we're still going! Thanks to you, our valued users, the Wing Tips Sponsors, and especially our valued volunteers (Kathleen, Wally, and Gary) I think we've got another 4 years coming!

Byron's Looking Into E-Commerce On Wing Tips, Are You Interested?
I've recently been looking into taking our Wing Tips Sponsors into the year 2000 with an entirely new E-Commerce based shopping system.  I'm sure you've all been to those web sites with a shopping cart system where you enter your credit card info; I'm even investigating taking personal checks via the web.

Although this isn't a done-deal yet, I've been in contact with the current Wing Tips sponsors, potential new sponsors, and even some of our favorite Red Wing Authors and things are looking positive. If you're a vendor of Red Wing related products and are interested in jumping on the band wagon please drop me a note at ByronBush@RedWingNet.com and I'll send you more information.  I think you'll find the proposed rates quite reasonable!

Have you submitted a "Request For Red Wing" lately?
If you've submitted a Request for Red Wing in the last several weeks odds are that it was not delivered and you should try it again. I'm sorry to say it but in moving the Wing Tips from our old server to the new one we had some technical problems that sent all of your posts into the "Bit Bucket." Sorry for the problems!

Ok, let's try this again. It seems the great "Server God" in Elk River, MN have smiled upon Ask Fran About Rumrill such that you can post your statements and questions.  Who will be the first?

Byron's Having Trouble Sending Email!
Seems that the "Email Server God" in Elk River, MN has frowned on Byron. Although I can receive email I'm no longer capable of SENDING or REPLYING to your notes. These turkeys pulled a quickie such that, unless I use their ISP services, I can't send email.  
Oh Yeah, I'm going to dial MN, from TX just to connect to the internet!
It'll probably be another couple days before I can reply to your notes but feel confident that It will be done. In the mean time, post your urgent notes to me in Wing Talk so I can reply.

"Ask Fran & Joe About Rumrill" is Currently Dead in the Water!
It appears that our new discussion group has crashed and burned even before it got off the ground. We discovered yesterday that making a post to Ask Fran About Rumrill is impossible. I'll be allowed to type text into the entry form but as soon as you Submit the text you get that nasty old "Web Middle Finger". 
Things are so locked up that I can't even open the discussion group pages and warn people not to use the form. I have no idea how long it's going to take to fix this; I'll let you know when Ask Fran is up and running.
