More About Red Wing Advertisingware
Almost all the pieces the Red Wing companies produced with advertising on
them were stoneware pieces, a few artware and dinnerware items can be found with either a
company logo or distinctive shape or pattern. No matter what the ware category,
advertising enhances the value.
Assuming you have found some type of advertising logo on the item, what
category would it fit into?
- location (specific city, state, etc.)
- industry (liquor, creamery, etc.)
- piece (jug, butter crock, etc.)
- glaze (salt, zinc, sponged, saffron, etc.)
- stencil color
- stencil shape
- date of production
- paper label
- specific company
- sports
- commemoratives
- benevolent organizations

Notes on Advertising Pieces
Underglaze stamping-Both Red Wing Collectibles (p 9) and Tefft (p 166)
show a Union Stoneware Company ad mentioning that blue, black, brown and green could be
used for an advertising logo. They both also emphasize that anything other than blue or
black is extremely rare.
Unusual shapes, such as a shield or a custom design, used on the stamp
increases the value.
An advertisement with a date is rare(p 97 Newkirk Markings).
Salt glazed pieces with ads are less common than zinc glazed items (p 72
Newkirk Markings).
Items used to advertise products made by the Red Wing companies are
collectible.
Paper items, such as sheet music and postcards, related to Red Wing are
collectible.
Books, such as those listed in our reference section, and records such
as letters and invoices are collectible.

Adding the multitude of advertising variables to those listed in the
